After the night apart the dawn
I always find it interesting, to see just what serves to trigger inspiration, and then to watch what we do with it. All too often, we have ideas, but fail to do anything with them
The inspiration for the following poem came from a long walk in a cemetery, which has always been something that I’ve enjoyed. The last line of a gravestone inscription, became the first line of this poem. While the grave was from the 1920’s, that line conjured up an earlier time for me, and a story of enduring love.
After the night apart the dawn
After the night apart the dawn
Waking to another day
Mine eyes doth ache
To gaze upon thy countenance
Long lonely days dims not
How my love for thee burns still
Thou were mine as I were thine
Once met, never should we part
Thy death ends naught
For eternity binds us
If lives full lived were but a year
One glorious week of spring
Was all we shared in this life
And ne’er did thou see the summer
Patience doth guide me, and I know not despair
For we have met and loved, untold times afore
As my end draws nigh, I wait for thee
Our dance shalt begin anew
I would know thee and find thee, through all of time
That thou would be mine again, and me be thine
